TAKE A LOOK AT THE CALIFORNIA HEALTHY PLACES INDEX

For those considering an application to Upstate Creative Corps, we recommend getting acquainted with the California Healthy Places Index (HPI). The HPI offers one method of measuring the relative health of communities, and has been shared with us by the California Arts Council as a way to gauge the potential impact of projects funded by the Creative Corps.

More specifically, we ask you to consider how a project will benefit our most vulnerable populations, i.e. those within the “lowest quartile” or 0-25% within the HPI will strengthen an application.

See the HPI Learning Center for first time users. We encourage applicants to attend our California Healthy Places Index Training on February 23 at 12-noon. If you cannot attend, we will provide a recording of our training on our Look & Listen page afterwards.

We recognize that there are other ways or metrics for measuring the health of communities - particularly in rural communities and at the local level - including the lived experience of artists and culture bearers, and their communities. We encourage applicants to reference studies, assessments and data that point to this in their applications, and to reach out to your local Partner Agency Contact for ideas.

Building upon intersectional public interest goals beyond the program’s pilot funding timeline, Creative Corps projects acknowledge the many social drivers of health, community to community.
